In 1975, Shelton was hit with one of the largest arson fires in U.S. history — the massive “Sponge Rubber Products” was set on fire as part of a plot to claim insurance money. To this day, residents drive slowly through the town as they feel enough rubber has already been burned (ha ha!).
If you thought that joke was silly, don’t worry — we take our work with sewage very seriously! (And, believe us, we pass up lots of easy opportunities for jokes.)
